Alice Bell, Al Roker's Ex-Wife, Dies at 77: Heartbreaking Loss for Family

Al Roker and his family are mourning a devastating loss.

Alice Bell, who was previously married to the anchor of Today, and together they had a daughter named Courtney Roker Laga, passed away at the age of 77. This information was shared by Courtney on her social media platforms.

Courtney expressed on Instagram on February 10th that her mother was not just a parent but a vital piece of her heart as well. She added that her mother was also an incredibly loving grandmother to their daughter Sky who is only 19 months old. Sadly, she was by her side in her final moments and will forever cherish her love.

Her post featured a collection of photos showcasing her mother, Alice. The sequence started with two framed pictures depicting a youthful Courtney and Alice together, followed by another pair showing Alice holding Sky. Notably, in the final pair, Alice seemed to be connected to an oxygen supply.

In Courtney’s comment section, one of the well-wishers was the ex-host of Today, Tamron Hall, who expressed, «We are sending our affection.

It has not been disclosed how Alice passed away, and Al did not appear on the February 11th episode of Today.

From 1984 to 1994, Al and Alice were wed, welcoming Courtney into their family in 1987. Additionally, Al has two children, Leila, aged 26, and Nicholas, aged 22, with his wife Deborah Roberts.

For quite some time, Alice mostly avoided the limelight; however, in the year 2022, Courtney wrote a heartfelt note addressing numerous important women in her life.

Courtney, aged 37, expressed, «I’d like to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to the three women who mean the world to me. My mom Alice, my stepmom Deborah, and my dear mother-in-law Barbara.

Speaking openly, Al has consistently expressed his deep affection for his children throughout the years, and he has always prioritized them above all else.

The newscaster stated on Today in 2021: «Regardless of what actions you take or the profession you have, your role is essentially about enabling each child, no matter who they are, to fulfill their personal aspirations.» He further emphasized: «Let me tell you, it’s an extraordinary experience that will touch your heart profoundly, for your life’s purpose seems to beat in another person’s heart.

He added, “And no matter what happens, these are always your children.”

When little Sky arrived, making Al a grandfather for the first time, he was ecstatic beyond belief. As he declared on-air in March 2023, «I plan to be the ultimate grandpa for this grandchild. I’ll go above and beyond to pamper this child as much as possible.

The 70-year-old individual also disclosed his preferred nickname that the family may someday address him as. He shared, «I intend to be called ‘Pop-Pop,'» explaining that this was his father’s affectionate term for all his grandchildren.

He added, “And no matter what happens, these are always your children.”

With the birth of baby Sky, Al found himself elated at his new role as a grandfather for the first time. As he had declared on-air in March 2023, «I intend to be the best grandpa ever for this little one. I’ll do everything possible to shower them with love and spoils.

At the age of 70, he also unveiled his preferred nickname that Sky might address him by in the future. «I’ll choose ‘Pop-Pop,'» he disclosed. «Since that’s what my father called all his grandchildren.
