That being said, this shouldn’t be a surprise for those who have been following the show for years, since it’s customary for the family comedy/drama to be on hiatus around this time. Every year, Young Sheldon suspends its programming to pave the way for March Madness, which CBS covers. This will also be the case this year, regardless of the prequel’s situation.

It’s worth noting that aside from March Madness, the network also considers the sweeps period, which takes place from late April to May (also in November, February, and July). Data collected during these dates is used by advertisers and networks to decide on the advertising rates for the rest of the year. That being said, the network has shared new details about what to expect from The Big Bang Theory prequel when it returns in the first week of April. The family has been in a period of peace since Sheldon and Mary came home, but that’s all about to change.
Young Sheldon season 7, episode 6 is titled «Baptists, Catholics and an Attempted Drowning.» The outing will see Mary and Mandy’s mom butting heads over the upcoming baptism of Baby Cece. Considering Mary’s return to Pastor Jeff’s church, it’s expected that she would insist on making her granddaughter also part of the same congregation. The episode also connects to the impending wedding of Mandy and Georgie, who got engaged in the Young Sheldon season 6 finale.
Aside from the confirmed storyline, there’s also the possibility of George’s death. Considering its unexpected nature, the writers don’t really have to drop clues about when or how it will happen, which means that the tragedy could go down at any time. With George officially exonerated from Sheldon’s cheating allegations in Young Sheldon season 7, episode 4, «Ants on a Log and a Cheating Winker» there are no remaining significant storylines incentivizing the show to keep the Cooper patriarch around.
