Although it’s been reported that the upcoming «Fast 11» is said to be the final installment of the «Fast & Furious» series, it aims to revert back to its original themes. While «Fast 11» might emphasize street racing and reduce some over-the-top stunts, it’s still challenging for this film to deliver a fulfilling finale to the franchise. Truthfully, any hopes of a satisfying ending were essentially discarded when Vin Diesel opted to extend the series beyond the 2015 release of «Furious 7», which could have served as a fitting conclusion for the franchise. Instead, subsequent films haven’t managed to capture the same essence as «Furious 7».

The filming for Furious 7 posed significant challenges following the unexpected demise of the series’ main star, Paul Walker. Alongside Diesel, Walker was a central figure in the Fast & Furious series. The bond between Diesel’s character, Dom, and Walker’s character, Brian O’Connor, was undoubtedly the most captivating aspect of the Fast & Furious films. Despite Walker’s untimely death in reality, Furious 7 chooses not to write off Brian O’Connor. Instead, Brian elects to step away from his action-packed life to devote more time to his loved ones.

Consequently, the culmination of Furious 7 emphasizes the bond between Dom and Brian. Following a series of scenes highlighting Walker’s character across the Fast & Furious series, Dom embarks on a solitary sunset drive. Yet, Brian, his closest friend, swiftly joins him, leading to another shared ride. Eventually, the road divides into two paths, and Dom and Brian part ways. This poignant goodbye for Brian could have served as an excellent finale not just for his character, but also for the entire franchise.

However, the ultimate decision to continue the franchise after «Furious 7» was left to Diesel. Since Walker had previously confirmed the eighth Fast & Furious film, Diesel felt a sense of responsibility to see it through. In 2015, Diesel shared with MTV:

Consequently, producing The Fate of the Furious was a tribute to Walker following his demise by Diesel.
